Apple Picking for the Food Pantry
Apple picking for the Food Pantry was a wagon load of fun. We scavenged through the fallen apples that normally wouldn't be taken by the customers coming to the orchard. The apples we kept had no bruises or gashes in them so they were still good to eat. The three of us filled 10 boxes altogether, plenty for those in need to pick through. This is one of those great events, easy to do, not much time involved, outdoors and so very appreciated by the people who are in need.

Teacher Luncheon
The teacher luncheon was very successful as NHS fed teachers from all the schools in the SAU 56 district. At the high school we set up buffet style across from the main entrance in front of the gym doors. Teachers sat at the lunchroom tables we placed in the hallway. Special thanks go to Panera Bread who donated loaves and loaves of bread, for the 2nd year in a row. The teachers thanked us for the meal, some even took seconds.

Food Pantry
The food pantry currently has a shift open Thursday 3-5 pm and Wednesdays 6-8. This is a great opportunity to earn two hours of community service. At the food pantry you either work the front or the back. When you work the front you receive the food shopping list and give it to the people in the back so they can fill the order. You also let the recipient of the food know how many breads or deserts they may have, and you ask them to pick which meat they would like and you get them from the fridge and bag them. Then you send the recipient to the back to get the next item. In the back room you look at the list of non-perishable foods and pick out the items they ask for. Then you give the items to the recipient so they can bag them or you can help bag them as well. A fairly simple service but very meaningful to those who receive it. You can also find out about other shift opportunities by calling Carol Cavanaugh at (603)841-0603 or emailing her at [email protected].
